Augie’s Uses Renlita to Provide Much Wanted Outdoor Dining Experience

Augie’s Mussel House and Beer Garden is a charming restaurant in Old Town, Alexandria whose offerings specialize in traditional Belgian cuisine with a modern twist. Like their cuisine, the owners sought to add a modern flair to the location that patrons have come to love while increasing usable space.

The establishment’s capacity was limited by the brick construction of the building and an overgrown alley between the restaurant and its neighbors. The owners considered a move, but ultimately decided to reclaim their overgrown space adjacent to where they had been located for years.

Partnering with DBI Architects, Modern Door provided a solution that did away with the original building constraints, and created an enticing and modern open air feel. The solution…? A dual set of award winning Renlita A-750 NuFold vertically lifting doors. This extended the lively atmosphere of Augie’s into the newly cleared alley on the side of the building. Offering not only a new look, but also a new experience to long time patrons, this functional face lift to an older brick structure provides additional capacity for social distancing and an outdoor experience that many people seek.

In addition to adding capacity to the restaurant, Augie’s brought an attractive modern vibe to their storefront. Replacing the old dark wood door and single window with a vibrant glass wall and swing door custom built by Renlita, they achieved a harmonious look perfectly integrated with the newly added outdoor bar area. While functional, this makeover provides pleasant natural lighting in the restaurant for a peaceful and enjoyable experience allowing the patrons to feel at one with the town they love and enhancing the dining at Augie’s.
